Box Score 2 ALMA, Mich. - Calvin dropped both ends of a doubleheader against a surging Alma College squad Friday afternoon. Calvin (15-22 overall, 13-13 MIAA) dropped the first game 8-2 and the second game by an 18-10 score.
Alma (22-16 overall, 14-11 MIAA) scored a run in the first and three in the second to build a 4-0 lead in game one. Junior Ryan Pena (Lake Forest, Ca./J. Serra Catholic School) put Calvin on the board with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Alma answered with a run in the fifth. Sophomore Jeremy Clark (San Diego, Ca./Mt. Carmel HS) singled in a run in the sixth but the Scots put the game away with a three-run sixth.
Junior Jonathan Keane (Brookfield, Wisc./Brookfield Central HS) took the loss to fall to 4-2 on the year.
Senior Nate DeZwaan (Hamilton, Mich./Holland Christian HS), junior Beau Redfield (Cedar Springs, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) and sophomore Logan Marshall (Plymouth, Mich./Salem HS) all had two hits apiece for Calvin.
Keane and Pena both had doubles in the game one loss.
Game two featured a slugfest with Alma belting out 18 base hits and Calvin 14. Alma used a nine-run fifth inning to pull away for the win.
Freshman Ricky Padilla (Poway, Ca./Poway HS) had three hits for Calvin in the loss to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. Pena had three hits as did sophomore Quinn Hyndiuk (Elm Grove, Wisc./Brookfield East HS). Senior Ryan Stewart (Shelby, Mich./Parkway Christian HS) had a three-run double. Keane also had a hit and two runs batted in.
Junior Clay Francisco (Delton, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg HS) took the loss to fall to 4-4 on the year.
Calvin and Alma close out the weekend series on Saturday with a doubleheader at Calvin set to begin at 1 p.m. Calvin will honor its seniors playing in their final regular season home game in between games one and two.
