Calvin Baseball Drops MIAA Tournament Opener to Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. - Calvin dropped an 8-2 decision to top-seeded Adrian Wednesday night in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.

The Knights (19-22) will face rival Hope (24-17) in an elimination game Thursday afternoon at Adrian's Nicolay Field.

Adrian (31-10) used a three-run fifth inning to build a 4-0 lead and added a run in the eight and three in the eighth to pull away for the win.

Calvin scored a run in the eighth and in the ninth but did not further damage. Adrian collected 12 hits and six walks in the contest.

Calvin had seven hits in the loss with senior Mike Kempton (Edwardsburg, Mich./Edwardsburg HS) and freshman Logan Marshall (Plymouth, Mich./Salem HS) picking up two hits apiece.

Junior Jaimie Bristol (Grand Rapids, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) took the loss for the Knights to fall to 1-7 on the year. Junior Nate DeZwaan (Hamilton, Mich./Holland Christian HS) also tossed two innings of relief.

Calvin's MIAA Tournament game against Hope on Thursday is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
