Men's Tennis Falls at Hope, 6-3

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Calvin men's tennis team fell short on Wednesday night in the rivalry match, 6-3. The loss moves Calvin to 10-4 on the year and 1-1 in the MIAA. Hope improves to 5-8 and 2-0 in MIAA play.

"Today was a tough match," said head coach John Ross. "We will have to learn from today and get ready for our match on Saturday."

The Knights started the day winning a thriller at No. 1 doubles. Junior Matt VanWinkle (St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph) and senior Taylor Asfour (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) defeated Michael Kiley and Mark VanderStoep, 9-8.

The Flying Dutchmen won the other two doubles matches.

Freshman Rodrigo Castellanos Vaca Guzmán (Tarija, Bolivia/Felipe Palazon) was victorious over Michael Kiley at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.

Taylor Asfour topped Christian Rhoades at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-7, 10-8.

Calvin returns to action on Saturday at Trine.
