GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's tennis team improved to 8-2 on the year with a 9-0 victory over Concordia on Monday afternoon.
"Today was a good warm-up for Hope," said head coach John Ross. "It was good to get the guys on the court today and play some tennis."
Senior Matt Buesing and sophomore David Brown recorded an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles and sophomore Matt VanWinkle and junior Taylor Asfour won at No. 1 doubles, 8-1.
Concordia did not have enough players to field competition at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
At No. 1 singles, Matt Buesing defeated Andrew Koerkel, 6-0, 6-0.
Matt VanWinkle beat Joel Werner at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman Jason Wolters swept Tyler Tweedale at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Junior Anthony Vroon blanked Lukas Mueller at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Taylor Asfour was victorious over Ty Smith at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
The Knights return to action on Wednesday as they host Hope College.
