Fond du Lac, Wisc. - The Calvin men's tennis team opened its 2016 spring schedule with a 9-0 victory over Ripon College at the Fond du Lac Raquet Club Friday evening.
Calvin won all six of its singles flights in straight sets. Senior Matt Buesing (Hoffman Estates, IL/Fremnd, HS) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles while sophomore David Brown (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich HS), junior Taylor Asfour (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS), sophomore Matt VanWinkle (St. Joseph/St. Joseph), sophomore Dausman (Coopersville/Coopersville HS) and freshman Jason Wolters (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) all won by 6-0, 6-0 singles scores.
Asfour and VanWinkle teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles while Buesing and Brown were 8-0 winner at No. 2 doubles. Wolters and freshman Andrew Airgood (Sturgis/Sturgis HS) were 8-0 winners at No. 3 doubles.
"It was a good way to start the year," said Calvin men's tennis coach John Ross. "Our guys are are having fun and we're getting in some great team bonding this weekend. We look forward to another good match tomorrow."
Calvin is scheduled to face Wisconsin Lutheran College Saturday night at 6 p.m. at the Elite Sports Club in Milwaukee.
