Box Score PONTIAC, Mich. – The Calvin men's lacrosse team started the 2016 season in dominating fashion. The Knights downed Defiance 28-1. The moves Calvin to 1-0 on the year and sends the Yellow Jackets to 0-1 in 2016. The 28 goals is the most in Calvin history and the victory is the largest margin of victory in school history.
"I was very proud of our guys winning with character," said head coach Luke Griemsman. "I am really happy with how we played today. It was nice to see all the hard work that the guys put in during the offseason pay off."
Sophomore Nate Ray led the Knights on Friday with a game-high 10 goals. Ray also notched an assist in the win.
Junior Chris Griffin recorded seven goals and three assists on Friday.
Freshman Seth Galyon joined the scoring party with four goals and seven assists.
Freshman Jonathan Miller scored two goals and finished with an assist.
Freshman Noah Nedd, junior Joel Schaefer, sophomore Tyson Butler, freshman Hunter Naggs and sophomore Michael Winkler all scored a goal against the Yellow Jackets.
Freshman Tristan Parece finished the game with nine saves in his first game at Calvin.
The Knights return to action on Feb. 20 they travel to Centre.
