Men's Tennis Clipped by Cornerstone

The visiting Golden Eagles of Cornerstone handed the Calvin men's tennis team its first loss of the season on Tuesday, defeating the Knights 7-2 in a match played inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.

Cornerstone (16-0) opened the match by taking two of the three doubles points with all three doubles flights tightly contested.

Freshman Matt VanWinkle and sophomore Taylor Asfour combined for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles but senior Tom Griffin and junior Matt Buesing fell 9-7 at No. 2 doubles and sophomores Anthony Vroon and Jared Doezema fell 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Calvin's lone point came from freshman David Brown who claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.

Calvin (2-1) returns to action on March 16 when it takes on Bethel College of Minnesota in Orlando, Florida.
