Calvin Women's Track and Field Repeats at MIAA Outdoor Champions

RESULTS

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Calvin women's track and field team captured its second consecutive MIAA Outdoor Track and Field crown on Friday, finishing the MIAA Championships presented by Collegiate Credit Union with a final team score of 258 points, 24 points ahead of rival Hope. The Knights have now won four straight MIAA track titles, that includes 2025 and 2026 MIAA Indoor crowns in addition to its 2025 and 2026 outdoor titles.

The women's team also combined with the Calvin men's team to win both indoor and outdoor crowns in 2026, marking the first time since 2017 that Calvin has gone 4-for-4 in seeking MIAA Track and Field championships.

Calvin fought off a determined effort from the homestanding Flying Dutch with strong depth and key first place power to pull ahead and remain in front.

Calvin broke four MIAA records including one school record on Friday.

Graduate student Sydney Radigan (Portland, Ore./St. Stephen's Academy) had a hand in three of the MIAA records broken Friday. She anchored Calvin's 4x100 meter relay team that took first place in an MIAA and Calvin school record time of 47.00. The time ranks 16th in Division III women's track and field this spring. Freshman Rayn Rutley (Fenton, Mich./Fenton HS) led off the relay and was followed by freshman Kaitlyn DiMaggio (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn HS) and sophomore Alison Bailey (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey HS) with Radigan roaring down the final stretch on the anchor leg. The winning time surpassed the previous MIAA record of 47.18 set by Hope last year and the Calvin record of 47.05 set just two weeks ago.

Radigan then won the 100 meter dash in an MIAA-record time of 11.64, breaking the previous MIAA record of 11.77 set by Avery Campbell of Albion in 2024. She led a 1-4-8 Calvin finish in the race with Rutley taking fourth (12.50) and senior Mia DeJonge (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) eighth (12.71).

Radigan broke the MIAA record in the 200 meter dash with a winning time of 23.68, surpassing the previous MIAA record of 24.09, also set by Avery Campbell in 2024. She was part of a 1-4 Calvin finish in the race as Bailey placed fourth in 25.53.

In the second-to-last event of the meet, senior Sophie Bull (Denver, Co./Denver Christian HS) set her second MIAA record in as many days, winning the 5,000 meters in a time of 17:01.50, surpassing the previous MIAA record of 17:08.23 set by Calvin's own Nicole Michmerhuizen in 2013. Bull was part of a 1-5-8 Calvin finish in the 5K with sophomore Alexis Ball (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central HS) fifth (17:49.76) and freshman Brynn Ellenbecker (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern HS) eighth (17:56.06). The 5K finish produced 15 points for the Knights and clinched the overall team title.

Calvin received big wins in the hurdles. In the 100 meter hurdles, Mia DeJonge led a 1-2-3-7 finish, winning the race in a career-best time of 14.40 that ranks 20th on the NCAA III performance list this spring. Sophomore Cadence Drougal (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) was right on her heels, placing second in a career-best time of 14.47 that ranks 24th in NCAA III women's track and field this spring. Freshman Abby Lambers (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) was third in a career-best time of 14.84 with freshman Ava Sanchez-Mustapha (Okemos, Mich./Lansing Christian HS) seventh in 15.33.

Lambers later won the 400 meter hurdles in a career-best time of 1:04.02. She led a 1-3-5-8 Calvin finish in the race. Freshman Annika DeJong (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore HS) was third (1:07.34), senior Marcail Schuurmann (Lombard, Ill./Timothy Christian HS) fifth (1:09.44) and Sanchez-Mustapha eighth (1:15.73).

Calvin also claimed an MIAA event title in the triple jump. Freshman Dasha Mason (Graham, WA/Graham Kapowsin) captured the title in the event with a winning mark of 38-7. She moved from second into first place on her second-to-last attempt of the competition, winning the event by less than one inch. Senior Julienne Strydom (Meyerton, South Africa) had a big day, taking third with a season-best jump of 37-8 ½ that ranks 31st nationally. Sophomore Alina Veltkamp (Lynden, Wash./Lynden Christian HS) was fourth with a career-best jump of 36-11 ¾ while freshman Emily DeJonge (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) took sixth in a career-best jump of 35-6 ½.

Senior RyAnn Rohrer (Ludington, Mich./Ludington HS) added her second MIAA title in as many days, winning the discus with a throw 144-1, a day after winning the shot put title. Her discus crown was the first of her career.

Freshman Caralee Schipper (Mount Brydges, Ontario/Strathroy District Collegiate Institute) had a season-best jump of 5-3 3/4 that was good for second place in the high jump.

Back on the track, Calvin racked up solid depth points in the 1500 meters. Freshman Emma Wierenga (Grafton, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) was fifth (4:43.84) and junior Hailey Erickson (Prospect, Ill./Arlington HS) sixth (4:44.99). Wierenga later took fifth in the 800 meters (2:19.89) while sophomore Kennedi Wood (Comstock Park, Mich./Sparta HS) seventh (2:28.29).

Calvin put four in the 400 meter finals with Bailey taking third (58.14), sophomore Jillian Tunnicliff (St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph HS) fourth (59.90), sophomore Emerson Nordbeck (Livonia, Mich./Franklin HS) seventh (1:00.62) and sophomore Jessica Bossenbroek (Holt, Mich./Holt HS) eighth (1:02.74).

The Knights closed out the meet by taking second in the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 4:02.18. The relay was made up of Tunnicliff, sophomore Peyton Ludwig (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS), Nordbeck and freshman Lola Davey (Cedar Springs, Mich./Rockford HS).

COACHES COMMENT: "A lot of great performances on the track and in the field today," said Calvin head track and field coach Adam Halderson. "This was an entire team effort and it feels very good to achieve the goal of winning another league championship."
