RESULTS
ALLENDALE, Mich. – Calvin put together a record-breaking Saturday at the GVSU Extra Meet Invitational.
Graduate student
Sydney Radigan (Portland, Ore./St. Stephen's Academy) shattered school marks in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash while senior
Sophie Bull (Denver, Co./Denver Christian HS) broke a school record in the 5,000 meters.
Bull raced to a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters, clocking in with a time of 16:29.62 that ranks seventh in Division III women's outdoor track and field this spring. Her time breaks the previous Calvin (outdoor) 5K record of 16:39.23 set by Sadie Heeringa in 2022.
Radigan meanwhile burned up the Grand Valley track, winning the 100 meter dash in a school-record time of 11.40 and the 200 meter dash in a school-record time of 23.50. Both times sit No. 1 on the NCAA III outdoor performance list. Her time in the 100 breaks her previous school record of 11.90 set a year ago. Her 200 meter time breaks her previous school record of 24.19, also set last spring.
Radigan led a caste of Calvin sprinters in the 100 meter dash. Freshman
Kaitlyn DiMaggio (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn HS) was 12
th in 12.39 with freshman
Rayn Rutley (Fenton, Mich./Fenton HS) 13
th in a personal-best time of 12.39. Senior
Mia DeJonge (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) was 19
th in a personal-best time of 12.57. Rutley and DiMaggio are tied for fourth place on the MIAA outdoor performance list.
Ratley also placed 17
th in the 200 meter dash in 25.90.
Also smashing through in a big way at Grand Valley on Saturday was senior
RyAnn Rohrer (Ludington, Mich./Ludington HS) who won the shot put with a career-best throw of 45-2 1/2. The throw ranks 10th on the NCAA III outdoor performance list and No. 1 in the MIAA. She also took fourth in the discus with a career-best throw of 152-1 that ranks seventh on the NCAA III outdoor performance list and No. 1 in the MIAA.Â
Sophomore
Jessica Bossenbroek (Holt, Mich./Holt HS) took seventh in the 400 meters in a personal-best time of 58.23.
Mia DeJonge was sixth in the 100 hurdles (14.45).
Graduate student
Alaina Smith (Sterling, Il./Seoul Foreign School) was 13
th in the steeplechase with a personal-best time of 11:46.25.
Freshman
Ayla Holben (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt HS) was 17
th in the 15000 meters (4:44.05).
Sophomore
Peyton Ludwig (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) was 15
th in the 800 meters (2:16.29), freshman
Emma Wierenga (Grafton, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) was 18
th (2:16.83), sophomore
Kennedi Wood (Comstock Park, Mich./Sparta HS) 23
rd (2:17.54) and junior
Hailey Erickson (Arlington Hts., Ill./Prospect HS) 26
th (2:19.56).
In the field events, senior
Laura Robotham (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) was 13
th (9-6 ½) and junior
Bethany Simons (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) 16
th (9-6 ½). Sophomore
Ava Epley (Commerce Charter Township, MI/Walled Lake Northern HS) and freshman Gabig Kempf (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS) both went 4-11 in the high jump.
Freshman
Emily DeJonge (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) was fifth in the triple jump (34-9) with senior
Rachel Post (Wycoff, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) eighth (31-5 ¾) and sophomore
Emma Tubergen (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) ninth (31-5 ½). Post was 15
th in the long jump (14-9 ¾) with Tubergen 16
th (14-7 ¾).
Calvin also sent competitors to the Olivet Nazarene Open on Saturday. Sophomore
Lily Burns (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) was fifth in the hammer throw (133-8) with freshman
Kate Bruining (Grand Rapids, Mich./South Christian HS) 13
th (120-5). Burns was seventh in the shot put (36-2).
COACHES COMMENT: "A tremendous day of track and field for our program," said Calvin head track and field coach
Adam Haldorson. "Three school records and many personal-bests. We are doing good things right now and are looking forward to competing at our conference meet next week."
NEXT UP: Calvin will compete at the MIAA Championships next Thursday and Friday at Hope College.
