HOLLAND, Mich. – The Calvin women's track and field team kicked off MIAA Championships competition by competing in day one of the MIAA heptathlon at Hope College.

The heptathlon is part of the MIAA Championship schedule of events and will count towards the team scoring at next weekend's full meet – also hosted by Hope College.
Athletes competed in four events – the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters on Monday.
Through four events, sophomore
Ella Easterling (Norton, Oh./Norton HS) sits in third place with 2,570 points, just 15 points out of second. Freshman
Caralee Schipper (Mount Brydges, Ontario/Strathroy District Collegiate Institute) is fourth with 2,392 points with sophomore
Bella Adams (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview HS) ninth with 2,068 points.
Easterling took third in the 100 meter hurdles (15.87) with Schipper fourth in a personal-best time of 16.10. Adams was eighth in 18.21.
Schipper was fourth in the high jump (5-1) with Easterling seventh (4-8 ¼) and Adams 10
th (4-6). Easterling had a big performance in the shot put, winning the event with a season-best mark of 39-0 ½ that was good for 654 points.  Adams was fourth (32-0) and Schipper 12
th (25-4 ¾),
Easterling had a season-best time of 27.86 in the 200 meters that was good for sixth place and 642 points. Schipper was eighth (28.02) and Adams ninth (28.30.
Action continues on Tuesday with events set to begin at 11:30 a.m. with the long jump followed by the javelin and 800 meters.
