Calvin Women's Track & Field Has Big Final Day at GVSU Al Owens Classic

RESULTS

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Calvin closed out competition at the GVSU Al Owens Classic on Saturday.

Senior RyAnn Rohrer (Ludington, Mich./Ludington HS) had a big day, winning the shot put with a season-best throw of 42-7 ½ that ranks 27th in Division III. She also took fifth in the discus with a season-best throw of 130-10 in the discus that ranks 56th nationally. Sophomore Lily Burns (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) was eighth in the shot put (37-5 ¾).

Senior Katie Seinen (Jenison, Mich./Unity Christian HS) was sixth in the pole vault with an outdoor season-best height of 11-0 ¾ that ranks 91st in Division III this spring. Senior Laura Robotham (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) was 14th (10-0 ¾).

In the long jump, senior Katelyn DeJonge (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) was 13th (16-10 ¾), sophomore Ella Easterling (Norton, Oh./Norton HS) 15th (16-9 ¼) and senior Julienne Strydom (Meyerton, South Africa) 22nd (15-11). Freshman Natalie Hensel (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield HS) was 14th in the high jump (4-9 ¾) and sophomore Gabi Kempf (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS) 20th (4-9 ¾).

On the track, junior Hailey Erickson (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect HS) sparkled, placing third in the 5,000 meters in a personal-best time of 17:37.90 that ranks 51st nationally. Freshman Brynn Ellenbecker (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern) was eighth in a personal-best time of 17:54.78 with sophomore Jonathah Bouwman (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) ninth in a personal-best throw of 18:11.60, senior Catie Kramer (Pickering, Ont./Dunbarton) 14th in a personal-best time of 18:32.64 and graduate student Alaina Smith (Sterling, Ill./Seoul Foreign School) 19th in 18:56.59.

Calvin had three sub-5 minute performances in the 1500 meters with freshman Emma Wierenga (Grafton, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) leading the way, placing fourth in a career-best time of 4:41.78 that ranks 68th in Division III. Sophomore Alexis Ball (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central HS) was 13th in a career-best time of 4:46.92 and sophomore Kennedi Wood (Comstock Park, Mich./Sparta HS) 17th in a career-best time of 4:49.53. Sophomore Robyn Tatko (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had Calvin's top time in the 800 meters (2:30.27).

Freshman Abby Lambers (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) led Calvin in the 400 meter hurdles, taking eighth in a time of 1:04.64 with freshman Ava Sanchez-Mustapha (Okemos, Mich./Lansing Christian HS) 14th (1:08.17), senior Marcail Schuurmann (Lombard, Ill./Timothy Christian HS) 16th (1:09.47), freshman Annika DeJong 17th (1:10.10) and sophomore Joselyn DeBoer (Hastings, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg HS) 19th (1:12.23).

In the prelims of the 100 meter hurdles, senior Mia DeJonge (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) was 11th (14.73), Sanchez-Mustapha 14th (15.19), sophomore Cadence Drougal (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) 15th (15.20) and Lambers 17th (15.22).

Freshman Alison Bailey (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey HS) was 14th in the 100 meter dash (12.53). Freshman Rayn Rutley (Fenton, Mich./Fenton HS) had a season-best in placing 18th (12.65) with freshman Kaitlyn DiMaggio (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn HS) 23rd (12.81). Rutley also placed 26th in the 200 meters (26.20) in a career-best time.

In the 400 meters, sophomore Jillian Tunnicliff (St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph HS) was 12th in the 400 meters (59.58) and sophomore Emmerson Nordbeck (Livonia, Mich./Franklin HS) 16th (59.98).

Calvin had a big performance in the 4x100 meter relay as its relay team of Rutley, Mia DeJonge, DiMaggio and Bailey took fifth with a season-best time of 47.62 that ranks 17th in Division III. Calvin's 4x400 meter relay team of Tunnicliff, freshman Lola Davey (), Robyn Tatko (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Schuurmann took sixth in 4:11.14.

Calvin will now break until next week with a select group of athletes competing at the Brian Clay Invitational in California next Thursday and Friday while others will compete next Saturday in the Calvin Invitational located inside the Gainey Athletic Complex.
