ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Calvin University men's golf team had two teams finish day one of the Bob Ebels Invitational hosted by Hope College at The Meadows at Grand Valley State on Friday.
The Calvin 'B' team finished the day in second place with a team score of 301, while the 'A' team is tied for fourth following a score of 304.
The 'B' group was led by
Ethan Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central) and
Josiah McClelland (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg), who finished the day tied for first place on the individual leaderboard with matching rounds of 72 on the par-71 course. Both players finished their rounds with four birdies for the day and played the back-nine under par.
Sam Timmer (Keene, N.H./Keene) shot 77 for the 'B' group, while
Reuben Kok (Redlands, Calif./Arrowhead Christian Academy) shot 80.
The Calvin 'A' team was led by
Ford Erickson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and
Dylan Clark (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) with rounds of 74 that tied for sixth place. Erickson finished with three birdies for his round, while Clark added two.
Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) shot 75 to finish the day in 11th place, while
Rilley Briggs (Portage, Mich./Vicksburg) shot 81.
Trine University leads the tournament heading into Saturday's final round with a Friday team score of 295. Central College (Iowa) is in third place after a score of 303.
