Calvin Track and Field Sending Eight to NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships

NCAA III INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFIERS & HEAT SHEETS

The Calvin men's and women's track and field program is sending eight student-athletes to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships scheduled to be held March 13 and 14 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Scheduled to represent the men's team is junior Zach Van Baren and sophomore Abe VanDuinen. Scheduled to represent the women's team is graduate student Sydney Radigan, senior Sophie Bull, sophomore Peyton Ludwig, and freshmen Dasha Mason, Emma Wierenga and Alison Bailey.

ZACH VAN BAREN (Hudsonville, Mich./Covenant Christian HS)

Van Baren is making his first trip to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships. He will compete in the heptathlon where he is seeded 19th in a field of 20 competitors. Van Baren gained his qualifying point total at the MIAA Multi-Event Championships on February 16 and 17 where he won the heptathlon with a school-record point total of 4,878 points and earned a spot on the All-MIAA First Team.

ABE VANDUINEN (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater HS)

VanDuinen is making his first trip to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships. He will compete in the 800 meter run where he is seeded 11th VanDuinen ran his qualifying time Saturday afternoon at the Wartburg Late Qualifier, establishing a new school record with a time of 1:52.89 in the process. VanDuinen was the MIAA indoor champion last month in the 800 meters and earned a spot on the All-MIAA First Team.

SYDNEY RADIGAN (Portland, Ore./St. Stephen's Academy)

Radigan is making her second straight trip to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships as a Calvin student-athlete. She will compete in the 60 meter dash where she is seeded 11th (7.57) and the 200 meter dash where she is the top seed (23.62). Radigan was the MIAA indoor champion last month in both the 60 meter dash and 200 meter dash and earned a spot on the All-MIAA First Team

SOPHIE BULL (Denver, Co./Denver Christian HS)

Bull is making her second straight trip to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete in the 3,000 meter run where she is seeded 11th (9:36.95) and in the distance medley relay where Calvin is seeded eighth. A year ago, Bull competed in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA III Indoor Championships where she placed 12th to earn 2nd Team Division III All-America honors. She was the MIAA indoor champion last month in the 5,000 meter run and earned a spot on the All-MIAA First Team.

PEYTON LUDWIG (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS)

Ludwig is making her first trip to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete as a member of Calvin's distance medley relay team which set a school record last Friday in a time of 11:45.19. She took second in the 800 meters at the MIAA Indoor Championships last month to earn a spot on the All-MIAA Second Team.

DASHA MASON (Graham, WA/Graham Kapowsin)

Mason is making her first trip to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete in the triple jump where she is seeded 11th. Mason took first place in the triple jump with a school-record mark of 38-10 1/2 at the MIAA Indoor Championships last month to earn a spot on the All-MIAA First Team.

EMMA WIERENGA (Grafton, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS)

Wierenga is making her first trip to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete as a member of Calvin's distance medley relay team. She was a member of Calvin's MIAA champion distance medley relay team last month to earn a spot on the All-MIAA First Team. She ran on Calvin's record-setting DMR team last Friday at Wartburg.

ALISON BAILEY (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey HS)

Bailey is making her first trip to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete as a member of Calvin's distance medley relay team. At the MIAA Indoor Championships last month, she placed second in the 400 meters and second as a member of Calvin's second place 4x400 meter relay team that placed second to earn a spot on the All-MIAA Second Team.
