EMORY THRILLS IN THE HILLS RESULTS /
NORTH CENTRAL FIRST CHANCE QUALIFIER RESULTS
ATLANTA, Ga. - Calvin closed out its opening weekend of outdoor track and field by competing on the third and final day of the Emory Thrills in the Hills Invitational.
Calvin flashed strong form in the 100 meter hurdles. In the prelims, senior
Mia DeJonge (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) cranked out a career-best time of 14.41 that currently ranks fourth on the NCAA III Outdoor performance list. Sophomore
Cadence Drougal (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) also cracked 15 seconds, clocking in with a time of 14.96 in the prelims with freshman
Ava Sanchez-Mustapha (Okemos, Mich./Lansing Christian HS) in at 15.14 and freshman
Abby Lambers (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) coming across the line at 15.32.
In the finals, DeJonge placed second in 14.58 with Drougal taking third in a career-best time of 14.87 with Sanchez-Mustapha sixth (15.50). The time by Drougal ranks 13
th on the NCAA III Outdoor performance list.
In the 4x100 meter relay,
Mia DeJonge joined freshman
Kaitlyn DiMaggio (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn HS), freshman
Rayn Rutley (Fenton, Mich./Fenton HS) and sophomore
Jessica Bossenbroek (Holt, Mich./Holt HS) to post a fourth place time of 48.71 that ranks 19
th nationally.
In the prelims of the 100 dash, Rutley cranked out a time of 12.67 with Sanchez-Mustapha clocking in at 13.07. In the 400 meters, freshman
Alison Bailey (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey HS) took 10
th with a career-best time of 58.24Â with sophomore
Emerson Nordbeck (Livonia, Mich./Franklin HS) 17
th (1:00.07) and freshman
Lola Davey (Cedar Springs, Mich./Rockford HS).
Sophomore Petyon Ludwig (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) was fourth in the 800 meters with a career-best time of 2:15.31. Her time ranks 22
nd nationally. Sophomore
Kennedi Wood (Comstock Park, Mich./Sparta HS) was eighth (2:18.71).
In the field events, sophomore
Lily Burns (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) was 20
th in the shot put (33-10). Senior
Katie Seinen (Jenison, Mich./Unity Christian HS) was sixth in the pole vault (10-6). In the long jump, senior
Julienne Strydom (Meyerton, South Africa) was ninth (17-3) sophomore
Alina Veltkamp (Lynden, Wash./Lynden Christian HS) 10
th (17-2 1.4) and senior
Katelyn DeJonge (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) 19
th (16-3 ¼).
Also competing on Saturday at the North Central First Chance Qualifier was senior
Trinity Kolka (Sanford, Mich./Meridian HS) in the 800 meters with Kolka placing 21
st in 2:35.68.
COACHES COMMENT: "We've had a great set of performances this weekend with 15 new Top 10 all-time Calvin performacnes, tons of PR's and great team bonding!" said Calvin head track and field coach
Adam Haldorson. "This was a fantastic way for the speed power portion of the team to open the outdoor season. A contingent of the distance team competed at North Central and also go the outdoor season off to a strong start!"
NEXT UP: Calvin will now prepare to compete at the GVSU Early Meet next Friday and Saturday.
