EMORY THRILLS IN THE HILLS RESULTS /
NORTH CENTRAL FIRST CHANCE QUALIFIER RESULTS
ATLANTA, Ga. – Calvin closed out its opening weekend of outdoor track and field by competing on the third and final day of the Emory Thrills in the Hills Invitational.
Calvin had a good showing in the pole vault as freshman
Zach Hartemink (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) took eighth with a vault of 14-5 ¼.
In the discus, The Knights showed strong early-season form. Sophomore
Carson Arnould (Hudsonville, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) was fourth (146-9), freshman
Alex Lutgring (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield HS) sixth (145-1) and freshman
James McCoy (Un)iversity City, Mo./Lutheran High School North) seventh (144-11). McCoy was also 10
th in the shot put (44-7 ¾).
Calvin junior
Luke Nguyen (Houston, Tx./Carl Wunsche Sr.) was 17
th in the long jump (20-1 ½) with freshman
Alex Guidry (Cypress, Tx./Cypress Creek HS) 22
nd (19-7 ½).
In the prelims of the 100 meter dash, freshmen
Hudson Shoup (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin HS) and
Gabe Van Goor (White Lake, Mich./Clarkston HS) debuted with quick times of 11.14 while junior
Bob Horton (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) came in at 11.42.
Freshman
Jonas Church (Wabash, Ind./Wabash HS) was 20
th in the 1500 meters (4:13.57) and was 25
th in the 800 meters (1:59.00) with freshman
Jackson Meyers (Grand Haven, Mich./Allendale HS) 34
th (2:00.14).
In the 110 high hurdles, freshman
Gavin Currie (Ada, Mich./Rockford HS) was 14
th (15.99), freshman
Nolan Viviano (Macomb, Mich./Dwight D. Eisenhower HS) 16
th (16.36) and sophomore
Will Richardson (Stockton, Md./Snow Hill HS) 18
th (16.43).
Graduate student
Koby VanderWoude (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) was 12
th in the 400 meters in 49.68. Senior
Connor Lubberts (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) was 16
th (50.30) with sophomore
Benjamin Habers (Lake Ann, Mich./Traverse City West HS) 28
th (51.24) and junior
Danny Andringa (Pella, Ia./Pella Christian HS) 40
th (52.48).
Also competing for Calvin at the North Central College First Chance Invitational were a group of 800 meter runners.
The group ran well in the 800 with freshman
Cody Aardsma (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian HS) fourth (1:56.58), freshman
Samuel Downing (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland East HS) ninth (2:00.71) and sophomore
Jack DeKruyter (Holland, Mich./Zeeland West HS) 10
th (2:01.20).
COACHES COMMENT: "We've had a great set of performances this weekend with 15 new Top 10 all-time Calvin performacnes, tons of PR's and great team bonding!" said Calvin head track and field coach
Adam Haldorson. "This was a fantastic way for the speed power portion of the team to open the outdoor season. A contingent of the distance team competed at North Central and also go the outdoor season off to a strong start!"
NEXT UP: Calvin will now prepare to compete at the GVSU Early Meet next Friday and Saturday.
