ATLANTA, Ga. – Three members of the Calvin University women's track and field team competed in the heptathlon on day one of the Thrills in the Hills meet at Emory University on Thursday.
Ella Easterling (Norton, Ohio/Norton),
Caralee Schipper (Mount Brydges, Ontario/Strathroy District Collegiate Institute) and
Bella Adams (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) each competed on Thursday in four of the eight events, with Easterling finishing the day in seventh place, followed by Schipper in eighth and Adams in 15th.
Easterling closed the day with 2,590 total points, with her best event resulting in a second-place finish in the shot put with a top throw of 11.53 meters. She also finished eighth in the high jump (1.51 meters), ninth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.81) and 16th in the 200 meters (28.53).
Schipper was only one spot behind Easterling following day one with 2,464 points. She finished seventh in the high jump (1.54 meters), 10th in the shot put (8.74 meters), and 12th in both the 100 meter hurdles (16.3) and 200 meters (27.47).
Adams has 1,987 points after one day with the help of a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 10.08 meters. She also took 14th in the 200 meters (27.68), 16th in the 100 meter hurdles (19.37) and 17th in the high jump (1.33 meters).
NEXT UP: The three athletes will close the heptathlon at the meet with the remaining four events tomorrow (Friday, March 27). The Calvin track and field team also has more athletes competing at Emory on Friday and Saturday, while others will compete at North Central College (Ill.).
