The Calvin University women's tennis team was ranked third in the MIAA Preseason Poll released by the conference on Tuesday.
Calvin finished the poll, voted on by the coaches across the conference, with a total of 49 points in third place. Hope College was the unanimous selection at the top with 64 total points and eight first-place votes, followed by Kalamazoo College (55 points, one first-place vote) in second.
The Knights finished the 2024-25 season with a 14-6 overall record and went 5-3 in league play on the way to a fourth-place finish.
This season, under the direction of first-year head coach
George Rodriguez, Calvin is 0-2 in team play with its only defeats coming to NCAA II opponents Saginaw Valley State University and Davenport University.
The Knights return three-time All-MIAA honoree
Tessa Holman (Washington, Mich./Romeo) at the top of the line-up, as well as
Ana Ornellas (Londrina, Brazil/Colegio Saber),
Marina Ribeiro (santos Sal Paolo, Brazil/Santa Cecilia),
Julia Hooker (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) and
Ryan Morey (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) from last year's singles line-up.
Calvin will return to action with a match at Ferris State University on Saturday, February 14, and will start MIAA play on March 28 against Hope College.
