OLIVET, Mich. - Today the Calvin men's volleyball team competed in its first match of the weekend where it defeated Wisconsin-Stevens Point 3-1 with scores of 19-25, 25-22, 25-23, and 25-14.
The first set started even before the Pointers of Stevens Point pulled away to take a 1-0 lead. In the second and third set the Knights got back on track and pulled out two close wins in a row to take a 2-1 lead. Calvin finished what they started when they dominated the fourth set to walk away with the 3-1 victory and record their eighth win in a row.
Senior
Gabriel Laughlin (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Michigan Aviation Academy) led the Knights in kills while
Daniel Rua (Medellín, Colombia/Colegio Canadiense) and
Nick Bultje (Byron Center, Mich./South Christian) also chipped in some key kills. Freshman libero
Brantley Tiede (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) also had a standout performance to help propel the Knights to victory.
COACHES COMMENTS: "We played really sloppy to start and just weren't disciplined on defense which allowed Stevens Point to go up in the match but I'm proud of the way we responded," said head coach
Aaron Sagraves. "We played really solid, especially defensively moving into sets 2-4 and this is a nice win over a team who is battle tested against many of the strongest teams in the region."
UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action tomorrow Saturday, February 28th when they return to Olivet, Michigan to take on Franklin at 2 PM and Olivet at 4 PM.
