GVSU BIG MEET RESULTS /
MIAA-WHAC CHALLENGE RESULTS
The Calvin men's indoor track and field team had a strong set of performances at two different venues on Friday. Calvin's distance crew competed at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale while many of its sprinters and field event athletes competed at the MIAA/WHAC Challenge at Aquinas College on the north side of Grand Rapids.
At the GVSU Big Meet, Calvin had a numbers of runners compete in various heats of the 5,000 meter run.
Sophomore
Vaughn Meyer (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) had a the best time of the day, clocking in at 15:19.60. Sophomore
Brewer Snay (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS) was next (15:27.64). Sophomore
Jonathan Koetje (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a personal-best time of 15:42.31. Freshman
Ian Reynolds (Littleton, Co./Denver Christian HS) came in at 15:44.29 while sophomore
Justin Vos (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) produced a career-best time of 15:50.38. Junior
Ryan Sarkett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair HS) came in at 15:52.61.
At the MIAA/WHAC Challenge, freshman
Gavin Currie (Ada, Mich./Rockford HD) had a big day in the 60 meter hurdles, winning the race in a career-best time of 8.72 with junior
Lucas Vander Griend (Grand Rapids, Mich./The Potters House) was sixth in 9.21.
Junior
Luke Nguyen (Houston, Tx./Carl Wunsche Sr.) won the triple jump (45-6 ¼) and was fourth in the long jump (21-7 ¼). Junior
Connor Johnson (Kingsley, Mich./Kingsley HS) was fifth in the long jump (21-4 ¾). Freshman
Sam Abdalla (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) was fourth in the triple jump (43-2 ½) with freshman
Alex Guidry (Cypress, Tx./Cypress Creek HS) fifth (42-9 ½) and Johnson eighth (42-3 ¼).
Freshman
James McCoy (University City, Mo./Lutheran High School North) was third in the shot put. Junior
Carson Arnould (Hudsonville, Mich./Zeeland West HS) took fourth in the weight throw (55-0) with freshman
Alex Lutgring (Battle Creek, Mich./Battle Creek Penfield HS) seventh (47-1).
COACHES COMMENT: "We had a very good day of performances," said Calvin head track and field coach
Adam Haldorson. "We are looking to build off today's momentum with a big group of athletes competing at GVSU on Saturday."
NEXT UP: Calvin will compete at the GVSU Big Meet 2 on Saturday with action set for 10 a.m.
