Matt Torrell was named MIAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Torrell (Rochester, N.Y./The Charles Finney School/Liberty) won the honor after leading the Knights to a 2-0-0 weekend at a tournament hosted by St. Norbert College. Calvin opened the weekend with a 1-0 win over St. Norbert on Friday and then defeated 19th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College 4-1 on Saturday to finish the week.
Torrell scored goals in both games for the Knights, including the game-winning goal in the 30th minute against St. Norbert. He scored a goal in the 57th-minute against Gustavus Adolphus and also added an assist on the Knights' first goal of the game in the sixth minute.
This season, Torrell leads Calvin with four goals and has scored one goal in each of the team's first four contests to help the Knights to a 3-1-0 record. His four goals currently rank first in the MIAA this season.
Calvin men's soccer will return to action on Saturday, September 13, when it travels to Oberlin College for a game scheduled to start at 3:00 PM.
