ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Calvin University men's swimming and diving team opened the 2025-26 season with the fourth annual Be Better; Invitational at Canham Natatorium at the University of Michigan.
The event, in its fourth year, honored the life of former University of Michigan and Holland Christian High School swimmer Ian Kiskelley, who passed away in 2020. The meet is meant to promote the Be Better; Foundation, which was started by the Miskelley family, to promote mental health.
The meet featured Calvin, Michigan, Purdue University and Hope College and was not scored officially. It also featured a number of non-traditional events at the end of the meet.
Among individual finishers,
Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) came away with a second-place finish in the 50 Freestyle to lead all Calvin swimmers.
Andrew Taulbee (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg),
Ryan Halberg (Novi, Mich./Northville) and
Cardin Nguyen (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyanne Mountain) each recorded multiple top 10 finishes in different traditional events, while
Logan McKinney (Jackson, Mich./Jackson),
Kellen Morford (Medina, Ohio/Medina),
Evan Haney (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) and
Jacob Ziegler (Toledo, Ohio/St. Jesuit) each recorded one.
Following the traditional events, the meet also included fun events like several mixed relays, 25 Yard Mystery Shootouts and 50 Yard Underwater with Fins races.
