MARSHALL, Mich. – The Calvin University men's golf team opened the conference season with the first of six MIAA events on Monday at Marshall Country Club.
The Knights finished MIAA Jamboree #1 in a tie for third place with Adrian College following a team score of 304 strokes on the par-71 course.
Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) posted the low round of the day for Calvin with a 1-over par 72 to tie for third place individually among the golfers at the tournament.
First-year
Ian Tuin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) recorded a team-best four birdies on the way to shooting a 5-over par 76, which was matched by
Jack Marzolino (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) as both players closed the day in a tie for 12th place.
Ethan Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central) and
Josiah McClelland (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) both carded rounds of 80 to tie for 24th place.
Playing as a wild card,
Sam Timmer (Keene, N.H./Keene) shot 82 on the day to tie for 35th place.
Trine University won the event with a team score of 300 strokes and Hope College (303) in second place.
