GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University women's basketball team received special mention among the Academic Top 25 Honor Roll honorees the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Tuesday.
The Academic Top 25 Honor Roll recognizes the top 25 teams in each division for having the highest combined team grade point average (GPA) from the 2024-25 school year. The Knights were just outside the WBCA Top 25 to earn a special mention designation.
Calvin, under the direction of head coach
Mark Christner, finished the year with a team GPA of 3.611.
The Knights closed the 2024-25 season with a record of 18-11 that included an MIAA Tournament title and an NCAA III Tournament berth. Calvin finished third in the final MIAA standings with an 11-5 league record before claiming the MIAA Tournament title with victories over Adrian, (#19) Hope and (#11) Trine. Calvin then advanced to the NCAA III Tournament where it fell in the first round to eventual NCAA III Final Four participant Wisconsin-Oshkosh 61-52.
The WBCA academic honor concludes a slew of academic awards for the Calvin women's basketball team. In March, seniors
Valerie Dirkse and
Sophie Sensenig along with sophomores
Hannah Sall and
Katelyn LaRue were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. In April, Dirkse was named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Collegiate Academic All-State Team.
