COLDWATER, Mich. – The Calvin University men's golf team closed its season with a third-place finish at the MIAA Spring Finale on Thursday at Bella Vista Golf Course.
The Knights entered the day in first place after an opening round 299 on Wednesday but finished with a team score of 311 strokes on Thursday for a two-day tally of 610.
Jack Marzolino (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) matched his opening round total of 73 on Thursday to close the tournament with a two-over par 146. After recording seven birdies in the first round, Marzolino birdied three holes and eagled the ninth hole in Thursday's round on the way to another 73 that placed him third among all individuals at the two-day event.
Jackson Glanzer (Stevensville, Mich./Berrien Springs) closed his collegiate career by carding a 77 on Thursday, while
Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) shot 78. Turcotte finished the event in a tie for fourth place with a two-day score of 150. Glanzer tied for 12th place with 155.
Ethan Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central) and
Greg Braun (Northville, Mich./Northville) both shot 83 on Thursday.
Eli Timmerman (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton) shot 75 on Thursday for a two-day score of 157 to place inside the top 20.
The Spring Finale also served as the final two rounds of MIAA league play for the season and the Knights closed the six events in third place with a total of 1,790 strokes (298.3 average).
Following the six conference events, Turcotte and Marzolino each earned All-MIAA First Team honors for finishing in the top seven in the individual conference standings. Glanzer and Tiller were both named All-MIAA Second Team for finishing in the top 14. This is the second All-MIAA honor for both Turcotte and Marzolino in their careers.
Hope College won the Spring Finale with a total score of 604, followed by Adrian College (608) in second place.
