COLDWATER, Mich. – The Calvin University men's golf team shot the lowest round on the course to open the MIAA Spring Finale on Wednesday at Bella Vista Golf Course.
Calvin finished the day with a team score of 299 strokes, topping Hope College's second-best total of 302 by three strokes to lead the event.
Three Knights finished the day in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard, led by
Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) with an even-par 72 in second place. Turcotte finished his round with five birdies and shot 34 on the front nine before a 38 on the back nine closed his round.
Jack Marzolino (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) shredded the front nine with six birdies on the way to a 31 going out before finishing the round at one-over par with a 73 to tie for third place heading into day two.
Ethan Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central) is tied for ninth place after a shooting 76, while
Jackson Glanzer (Stevensville, Mich./Berrien Springs) and
Greg Braun (Northville, Mich./Northville) shot matching 78s to tie for 14th place.
Wednesday's round is the fifth out of six MIAA rounds this season and the Knights jumped Trine University to move into second place in the standings with an average score of 295.8 heading into Thursday's final round.
NEXT UP: Calvin men's golf will close the regular season with the final round of the MIAA Spring Finale at Bella Vista GC tomorrow (Thursday, May 8). The first players are scheduled to tee off at 9:00 AM.
