A total of 10 members of the Calvin men's track and field team have received All-MIAA outdoor track and field honors – four of which have been named to the All-MIAA First Team with six additional Knights named to the All-MIAA Second Team. Individuals earned a spot on the All-MIAA First Team by winning an event at the MIAA Championships last week. Those named to the All-MIAA Second Team placed second in their respective event.
THAINE NEDERVELD (Columbus, Oh./Columbus Alternative School)
The list is headlined by senior
Thaine Nederveld who has been named the MIAA's Most Valuable Track Athlete. Nederveld was named the MIAA Most Valuable Men's Track Athlete after an outstanding performance that included victories in both the 5,000m and 10,000m runs. Nederveld completed the 5K in 14:50.32 and the 10K in 31:16.46 -- more than 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up. He also placed third in the 1,500m run with a time of 3:53.31, contributing a total of 26 points to his team's effort. It marks the second Most Valuable Runner award of Nederveld's collegiate career as he earned the same award in men's cross country in 2023.

ERIC SWINSON (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern HS)
Swinson is receiving All-MIAA First Team honors for the third in outdoor track and field. At the MIAA Championships last week, he captured his third league steeplechase crown in the last four years, winning the race in a time of 9:26.52. He later came back to take third in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:52.73. Swinson is receiving All-MIAA outdoor track and field honors for the third time.
BOB HORTON (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS)
Horton is receiving All-MIAA First Team accolades for the first time in his career. He is coming off a spectacular MIAA Championship meet. On Friday, he captured the 400 meter hurdles title in thrilling fashion, winning the race in a career-best time of 53.34, moving into the national top 25. Just nine prior in his first-ever decathlon competition, he placed fourth with 5,234 points. The competition was his first decathlon competition.
SIMON VANDENBROEK (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS)
Vandenbroek made a big splash in his first MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet. Last Friday, he captured the league title with a jump of 6-6. The winning jump came on the heels of an MIAA third place finish in the high jump at the MIAA Indoor Championships in March.
ZACH VANBAREN (Hudsonville, Mich./Covenant Christian HS)
VanBaren was a big point producer for the Knights at the MIAA Championships. In the decathlon, he placed second with a career-best total of 6,033 points. He later blasted his way to a second place finish in the 110 high hurdles in a career-best time of 15.15 while adding a fourth place finish in the high jump with a career-best jump of 6-3 ½.
LUKE NGUYEN (Houston, Tx./ Carl Wunsche Sr)
Nguyen earned a spot on the All-MIAA Second Team by placing second in the triple jump with a leap of 44-10 ¼ while also placing fifth in the long jump (21-2).
KOBY VANDERWOUDE (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS)
VanderWoude earned a spot on the All-MIAA Second Team by placing second in the 400 meter dash with a season-best time of 48.73. He later placed seventh in the 200 meter dash (22.20) and anchored Calvin's 4x400 meter relay to a second place finish in a time of 3:18.49.
CONNOR LUBBERTS (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS)
Lubberts earned a spot on the All-MIAA Second Team by running on Calvin's second place 4x400 meter relay team. He also placed fifth in the 400 meters in a time of 49.59.
MASON SCHIMMEL (Grand Rapids, Mich./Covenant Christian HS)
Schimmel earned a spot on the MIAA Second Team by running on Calvin's second place 4x400 meter relay team.
BENJAMIN HABERS (Traverse City, Mich./Lake Ann West HS)
Habers earned a spot on the All-MIAA Second Team by running on Calvin's second place 4x400 meter relay team. He also placed seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 50.11.
At the MIAA Championships, Calvin finished second with a final team score of 205 points, just five points behind league champion Trine University. The five-point margin marked the closest league championship meet finish in men's track and field since 1988.
