Six members of the Calvin men's track and field team have received USTFCCCA Great Lakes All-Region Outdoor Track and Field honors. Named to the all-region squad from Calvin are seniors
Luke Witvliet,
Eric Swinson and
Thaine Nederveld, sophomores
Zach Van Baren and
Bob Horton and freshman
Simon Vandenbroek.
Top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay team.
LUKE WITVLIET (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS)
Witvliet is receiving all-region accolades for the third time in the 2024-25 academic year as he received all-region honors in cross country in November and all-region honors for indoor track and field in March. He is receiving all-region honors for outdoor track and field in the 10,000 meter run where he posted the third-fastest time in the Great Lakes Region this spring in 29:57.01. He was also named to the USTFCCCA Great Lakes All-Region outdoor track and field team in 2024, also earning the honor in the 10,000 meter run.
ERIC SWINSON (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern HS)
Swinson is earning all-region accolades in the 3,000 meter steeplechase where he posted the third-fastest time in the Great Lakes Region this spring in 9:03.28. Swinson was also named to the 2023 USTFCCCA Great Lakes All-Region Outdoor Track and Field Team in the steeplechase. In addition, he was an all-region cross country selection this past November.
THAINE NEDERVELD (Columbus, Oh./Columbus Alternative School)
Nederveld is receiving all-region honors in the 5,000 meter run where he posted the fifth-fastest time, clocking in at 14:18.91. Nederveld also picked up all-region honors in cross country this past November.
ZACH VAN BAREN (Hudsonville, Mich./Covenant Christian HS)
Van Baren is receiving all-region honors in the decathlon where he was ranked fifth in the Great Lakes Region with a total of 6,033 points. This is the second all-region accolade of the year for Van Baren as he received the award for indoor track and field for a top-five regional finish in the heptathlon.
BOB HORTON (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS)
Horton is receiving all-region honors for the first time. He is receiving all-region accolades in the 400 meter hurdles where he posted the fourth-fastest time in the region this spring in 53.34.
SIMON VANDENBROEK (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS)
Vandenbroek is receiving all-region honors for the first time. He earned the citation by finishing fourth in the region in the jump with a leap of 6-7 ½.
