ROCK ISLAND, Il. – The Calvin men's track and field team closed out its regular season campaign on Wednesday at the Augustana College Twilight Invitational.
Highlighting the field events was the performance of freshman
Simon Vandenbroek (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) who took first place in the high jump with a career-best leap of 6-7 ½ (2.02 meters) that places him 30
th on the NCAA III performance list.
Sophomore
Zach Van Baren (Hudsonville, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) was 11th in the high jump (6-1 1/2) and clocked a time of 15.44.
In the 400 meter dash, sophomore
Mason Schimmel (Grand Rapids, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) took 15
th in a career-best time of 49.61 while junior
Danny Andringa (Pella, Ia./Pella Christian HS) also had a career-best time of 50.60 that was good for 22
nd place. Andringa later produced a career-best time of 22.56 in the 200 meter dash that was good for 48
th place.
In the 400 meter hurdles, sophomore
Bob Horton (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) took sixth in 53.38, just missing a career-best.
Senior
Eric Swinson (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern HS) took sixth in the steeplechase with a time of 9:09.14.
Calvin's 4x400 meter relay team of freshman
Benjamin Habers (Lake Ann, Mich./Traverse City West HS), senior
Corbin DeBoer (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS), junior
Connor Lubberts (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) and senior
Koby VanderWoude (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) took 14
th with a season-best time of 3:14.93 that ranks as the seventh-best time in Calvin history. Â
