The Calvin-Hope baseball rivalry is headed to
LMCU Ballpark.
The two rivals will face each other at the home of the West Michigan Whitecaps on May 1 at 7 p.m.
The contest will be a single nine-inning game and will be the opener of a three-game weekend series with Hope scheduled to host Calvin in a doubleheader on May 3 at 1 p.m. in Holland.
Tickets to the May 1 contest at LMCU Ballpark are $5.00 for adults. Children 12 and under will be admitted free. LMCU concessions will be open throughout the evening.
The contest will serve as the final regular season home game for Calvin in the 2025 season and will also serve as Calvin's Senior Night with the members of Calvin's senior class set to be honored as part of the evening's festivities.
"Playing 'The Rivalry' at LMCU Ballpark is going to be an incredible experience," said Calvin head baseball coach
Joel Schipper. "It's shaping up to be an awesome event. We hope our community will show up in full force to support. It's going to be a special night as we celebrate our seniors and the dedication they've given to our program."
Calvin Directo of Athletics Dr. Jim Timmer has played an instrumental role in partnering with the Whitecaps to make the event work. He offered his thanks to the Whitecaps organization.
"We are truly grateful to the West Michigan Whitecaps for partnering with us and making this event a reality," said Timmer. "I know the players are very excited to compete in a wonderful venue like LMCU Ballpark in their own back yard. This should also provide for a great outing for fans, friends and family members at a very reasonable price. We are eagerly looking forward to this night. It should be a great event for everyone involved."
This will be the second time the two rivals will have faced each other at LMCU Ballpark. Calvin hosted Hope in a doubleheader in 2013 at the facility with Hope winning the opener 6-5 and Calvin winning the nightcap 8-1.
Under the direction of first-year head coach
Joel Schipper, Calvin is currently 12-11 overall and tied for first place in the MIAA standings with a 5-2 conference record.
