GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University men's golf team battled the conditions on Monday in the Knight Invite at Watermark Country Club and came away with several strong individual finishers and three separate teams finishing in the top five in the final team standings.
 
With winds howling around 30 miles per hour much of the day, the Knights split the roster into three separate teams. The 'A' team shot 327 to take third place. The 'B' group shot 328 in fourth, while the 'C' team finished fifth with a team score of 329 strokes.
 
Greg Braun (Northville, Mich./Northville) won individual medalist honors with a two-over par 73 to lead the 'C' team, besting his closest competitors by three strokes.
 
Eli Timmerman (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton) was one of those competitors in a tie for second place with a 76 to lead the 'B' team, while Reuben Kok (Redlands, Calif./Arrowhead Christian Academy) also placed in the top five with a 77 that tied him for fourth place.
 
Jackson Glanzer (Stevensville, Mich./Berrien Springs) and Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) led the 'A' team with matching rounds of 80 to tie for sixth place, while Josiah McLelland (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) also shot 80 for the 'B' group.
 
Dylan Clark (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and Jack Marzolino (Bryon Center, Mich./Byron Center) rounded out the top four for the 'A' team with rounds of 83 and 84, respectively.
 
Trine University and Cornerstone University tied for first place in the team competition with matching totals of 324 strokes.
 
COACH'S COMMENT: "We survived the weather," Calvin head men's golf coach Brian Bolt said. "30 MPH winds and challenging greens made the day tough for everyone. A lot of scores outside our normal range, but guys fought through it and we look forward to hitting it again this weekend."
