ALMA, Mich. - Today the Calvin women's lacrosse team opened MIAA play when they traveled to take on the Scots of Alma. The Knights dominated the game right from the start and after picking up the 18-2 victory improved their record to 6-2.

The Knights overpowered the Scots in all aspects of the game as they out shot them 32-15 and picked up fourteen ground balls compared to Alma's seven. Calvin caused the Scots to make twenty-one turnovers.Â

Calvin got out to a hot start in the first quarter as the Knights outscored Alma 9-0 with junior
Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) leading the charge and notching three goals. Junior
Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) recorded two goals in the first quarter before adding another in the second quarter.

By the time halftime rolled around freshman
Delaney Johnson (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) and junior
Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) each were responsible for two goals while
Anneliese Hanson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North),
Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg), and
Riley Cornwell (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) all chipped in one.

The Knights slowed down offensively in the second half they still outscored the Scots 5-1 as they skated their way to a 18-2 victory.Â

Booher finished as the Knights leading scorer with five goals while Johnson, Smith, and Bethard each finished with three. Chang had three caused turnovers while sophomore Alex Petrusma (Milford, Mich./Milford) and freshman
Corinne Plumb (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) each had two ground balls. Chang and Plumb led the team with two goals apiece.

In goal, sophomore
Hannah Rizzo (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) recorded ten saves in the win.
COACHES COMMENTS: "The team played well tonight," said head coach
Blake Boehm. "I'm proud of their progress and the way they're playing together. They're seeing the game from a higher perspective and it's giving them a deeper passion for the game."
We definitely have some things to clean up and a tough road ahead of us, so we've got to get back to work tomorrow with a renewed focus.
