GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's swimming and diving team bumped up its first place lead on day two of the MIAA Championships. Calvin entered Thursday with a narrow two-point lead over rival Hope but bumped its lead up to a 33-point margin heading into Friday's competition.
Heading into Friday, the Knights have an overall team score of 396 points with Hope second with 363 points.
Thursday's meet provided typical back-and-forth action between the two rivals but relay strength, sprints power and clutch performances on the three-meter diving board allowed the Calvin lead to grow.

COACHES COMMENT: "We started rolling a bit this morning," said Calvin head swim coach
Dan Gelderloos. "This is a different type of meet with all kinds of sub-plots but I thought we settled in pretty as the day went along. I thought our 500 freestyle guys really showed a lot of heart and fight this evening. Our relays swam strong, did what they had to do and got us the points we needed. We had some nice individual victories in the 200 IM and 50 free and I thought our two divers were outstanding and gave us a huge boost."
NEXT UP: Action continues on Friday with prelims set for 10 a.m. and championship finals slated to start at 5 p.m.
