HOLLAND, Mich. - Today the Calvin men's swim and dive team headed to the lake shore to compete in the MIAA Invite at the Holland Aquatic Center. After a full day of competition, the Knights finished on top of the leader board with a team score of 949.

Calvin started strong when relay team made up of
Jackson Merkel (Grandville, Mich./Grandville),
Caleb Gemmen (Mentor, Ohio/Homeschool),
David Gabrielle (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), and
Zachary Logan (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) took first place in the 200 medley with a time of 1:31.90.

The Knights kept things rolling in the 1000 freestyle as
Ryan Halberg (Novi, Mich./Northville) (9.59.26),
Alex Bergsma (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) (10:00.99), and
Andrew Stimpert (Normal, Ill./Normal West) (10:09.43) took the top three spots before
Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) followed that up with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:38.74).

Will Bales (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Everett) got Calvin more points when he finished second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21:46 while
Jacob Ziegler (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) nabbed the first-place spot in the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.31.

In the 100 butterfly the Knights continued to show their domination as Gabrielle took first place with a time of 50.75 with
Cardin Nguyen (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) (50.76) and
Andrew Taulbee (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) (51.17) following behind in second and third.

Platt got his second first place finish of the day when he recorded the top time of 44.86 in the 100 freestyle while Merkel (49.71), Ziegler (53.70), and
Logan McKinney (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) (53.99) swept the top three spots of the 100 backstroke.

In the 100 breaststroke, Gemmen finished on top of the leader board as he finished with a time of 56.15. In the 400-freestyle relay, final event of the day, the Knights recorded two finishes in the top five as Merkel, Logan, Bales, and Platt took first with a time of 3:04.78 while Ziegler,
Carter Detweiler (Farmington Hills, Mich./Council Rock North),
Kellen Morford (Medina, Ohio/Medina), and
Daniel Miller (Arlington, Tx./Arlington) finished at 3:14.02 in third.

UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Friday, October 31st when they compete in day one of the Quad Meet against Albion, Carthage, and Ohio Northern. The meet is set to begin at 6 PM at the Venema Aquatic Center.
