PORT CLINTON, Ohio – The Calvin University men's golf team finished day one of the NCAA Division III Region V Showcase in fourth place on Monday at Catawba Island Club.
The Knights finished the day with a team score of 315, two strokes behind third-place Capital University's score of 313.
Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) was the top Calvin scorer in a tie for 11th place after carding a 6-over par 78 on the par 72 course that included one birdie and one eagle.
Ian Tuin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian),
Reuben Kok (Redlands, Calif./Arrowhead Christian Academy) and
Jack Marzolino (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) were all one stroke behind Turcotte in a tie for 14th place following rounds of 79.
Ethan Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central) was the fifth Calvin player and finished with an 81, good for 26th place.
Trine University leads the tournament heading into Tuesday's second and final round with a team score of 304, followed by Otterbein University in second with 308.
NEXT UP: Calvin men's golf will conclude the fall portion of its schedule with the second and final round of the Region V Showcase tomorrow (October 21) at Catawba Island Club. Players will tee off starting at 9:00 AM.
