GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The Calvin ACHA D1 hockey team defeated University of Mary 6-2 at home Wednesday night. The Knights are now 2-1-0 after their victory.
Marshall Beaker scored the opening golf of the game with 13:35 left to play in the 1st period. He was assisted by
Hayden Zimmerman.
Trent Benedict followed up with a goal of his own with 6:57 left in the period. He was assisted by
Krzyzstof Petryla and
Steven Ickes. Calvin ended the period with a two-goal lead.
Steven Ickes scored Calvin's 3rd goal of the game with 12:02 left in the 2nd period. He was assisted by
Krzyzstof Petryla and
Marshall Beaker. Mary got on the board in the 2nd period with a goal from Nick Bradshaw, who was assisted by Crae Dawson and Derek Dropic, with 4:39 remaining in the period. Mary scored its 2nd of the game just over a minute later from Dain Sardelli, with an assist from John Lang. Petryla scored a solo goal to close out the period to put the Knights back in front by two.
Steven Ickes increased the Knights lead to 3 with 13:01 to play while
Krzyzstof Petryla collected his 3rd assist of the game for the hattrick on assists.
Trent Benedict scored his 2nd of the game with 1:20 to play while Krzyzstof Petryal added a 4th assist and
Hayden Zimmerman added his 2nd.
COACHES COMMENT: "Tonight was a good rebound for us from last weekend's split," said Calvin head coach
Josh Petrusma. "University of Mary is a quality team and they play hard. I was happy that we set the tone early and played with 60 minutes of effort tonight. It was a team win. Next up we have another tough test against Northwood. I look forward to the opportunity to continue to build on our game and keep taking steps forward."
NEXT UP: Calvin's next game will be at home against Northwood University. The game will be Friday October 17th, at 7:30pm. The game will be at Eagles Ice Center.
