RESULTS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In a matchup of top-10 nationally-ranked Division III teams, Calvin was defeated by the Chicago Maroons 168-129 Saturday afternoon inside the Venema Aquatic Center. The Knights are now 4-6 in dual meet competition this season.
Calvin entered the meet ranked ninth nationally while Chicago came in ranked fourth. Prior to the meet, Calvin honored the eight members of its senior class.
Junior
Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Il./Downers Grove North HS) had a huge meet for the Knights, winning the 100 backstroke (49.61) and 200 backstroke (1:47.94) and leading off Calvin's first place 200 medley relay team that clocked in with a time of 1:27.94. Platt was joined in the relay by junior
Timothy Hays (Arlington Heights, Il./Prospect HS), senior
Logan Campbell (Yorkville, Il./Yorkville HS) and senior
David Bajwa (Bethesda, Md./The Heights School).
Senior
Wil Goodpaster (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton HS) also had a monster day, winning the one-meter diving competition (335.02) and three-meter diving competition (308.40). Both scores were season-best efforts for Goodpaster.
Bajwa was second in the 200 freestyle (1:41.17). Calvin went 2-3 in the 100 breaststroke with Hays placing second (56.29) and junior
Caleb Gemmen (Mentor, Oh./Home School) third (56.80). Hays was also third in the 100 butterfly (50.53). Gemmen was also third in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.93).

Jake Schotanus (Versaille, Ky. Woodford County) was second (2:00.35) and senior
Ethan Wayne (Canton, Mich. Canton) third (2:05.48).
Sophomore
Andrew Stimpert (Normal, ILÂ Normal West) was third in the 500 freestyle (4:47.40) and 1000 freestyle (10:04.01). Sophomore
Ryan Halberg (Novi, Mich./Northville HS) was also third in the 400 IM (4:12.76).
Calvin's 200 freestyle relay team of Bajwa, graduate student
Vlad Molin (Rolling Meadows, Ill. Rolling Meadows), Seidelman and Platt took second in 1:21.15.
COACHES COMMENT: "We honored the seniors today with some great efforts and team work," said Calvin head swim coach
Dan Gelderloos. "Our women's team got a great win which was a nice upset and we got a good look at a team we will see at the NCAA meet."
NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to Wayne State next Saturday for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
