KANSASVILLE, Wis. – The Calvin University men's golf team shot its lowest round of the early season to take home a fourth-place finish at the two-day Midwest Region Classic at Brighton Dale Links on Saturday.
After an opening round of 294 on Friday that had the Knights in a tie for seventh place, Calvin moved up three spots into fourth place with a final round tally of 287 strokes and shot one-under par for the day as a team. The Knights finished the tournament with a team score of 581.
The Knights were led by
Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian), who followed his even-par round of 72 on Friday with a five-under par 67 on Saturday for his lowest round as a collegiate player. Turcotte moved all the way into a tie for third place (out of 244 total golfers) with a two-day score of 139.
Playing as an individual,
Jack Marzolino (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) followed his Friday 69 with an even-par 72 on Saturday to finish seventh overall with a 141 total.
Dylan Clark (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and
Greg Braun (Northville, Mich./Northville) each finished with two-day totals of 147 after Saturday rounds of 73 to tie for 36th place.
Jackson Glanzer (Stevensville, Mich./Berrien Springs) matched his Friday score of 74 for a total of 148 to tie for 48th place, while
Ethan Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central) shot 77 on Saturday for a two-day total of 151 and finished in a tie for 84th place.
Calvin took fourth place out of 44 teams in attendance. Carthage College (566) won the event, followed in the top three by Wheaton (575) and Millikin (575).
NEXT UP: Calvin men's golf will return to action on Saturday, September 28, when it plays in the second MIAA Jamboree event at Kalamazoo Country Club.
