KANSASVILLE, Wis. – The Calvin men's golf team had a strong opening day at the Midwest Region Classic held at the Brighton Dale Links Golf Course on Friday.
As a team, Calvin sits in sixth place in a field of 44 teams with a day one team score of 294 strokes.
Junior
Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) led Calvin on the team side with an even par round of 72 that has him tied for 16
th place individually.
Fifth-year senior
Jackson Glanzer (Stevensville Mich./Berrien Springs HS), freshman
Dylan Clark (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS), sophomore
Greg Braun (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) and sophomore
Ethan Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central HS) were close behind with rounds of 74 and sit in a tie for 46
th place individually.
Competing individually and not factoring in the team score but having a fine day was junior Jack Marzalino who carded a three-under par round of 69 that has him tied for third place individually.
Lake Forest is in first place in the team standings with a day one total of 289 strokes.
COACHES COMMENT: "Everyone played well today and turned in a good score," said Calvin head men's golf coach
Brian Bolt. "It put us as a team in a position to make a move tomorrow.
Jack Marzolino also played as an individual today and turned a great round. We are looking forward to tomorrow's round now that we know the course."
Calvin picks up day two play on Saturday with opening tee times set for 9 a.m. (CDT).
