TECUMSEH, Mich. – The Calvin University men's golf team finished with two teams in the top three at the end of day one of the Irish Hills Invite at Tecumseh Golf Course on Friday.
Calvin played both an 'A' and 'B' team at the event, with the 'B' group sitting in second following a team score of 302 and the 'A' group in third place with a score of 306.
The 'B' group was led by
Greg Braun (Northville, Mich./Northville), who carded an opening-round 70 and sits in first place on the individual leaderboard by three strokes heading into Saturday's final round.
Jack Marzolino (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) led the 'A' team with a score of 74 to tie for third place individually.
Josiah McClelland (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) shot 75 for the 'B' team, followed by
Ford Erickson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) with a round of 76 and
Eli Timmerman (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton) with an 81.
Dylan Clark (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) shot 75 for the 'A' team and is in sixth place.
Jackson Glanzer (Stevensville, Mich./Berrien Springs) and
Ethan Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central) shot 78 and 79, respectively.
The Spring Arbor 'A' team is in first place at the end of day one with a team score of 298. Spalding (308) and Adrian's 'A' team (311) round out the top five.
COACH'S COMMENT: "It is a great opportunity to play two teams in this tourney to add to our depth and assess which players are most dependable in tourney conditions," Calvin head men's golf coach
Brian Bolt said. "We had some solid scores, including 70 from sophomore
Greg Braun. Both teams are in position to make a move tomorrow to win the tournament."
