NCAA III Championships Day Three ResultsĀ
GREENSBORO, NC ā The Calvin men's swimming and diving team maintained its sixth place standing at the NCAA III Championships with four All-America swims on Friday evening.
With one day of competition left, the Knights are in sixth place in the team standings with 143 points, 12 points ahead of seventh place Carnegie Mellon and 13 points in front of eighth place Denison.
Calvin picked up points in the 200 butterfly and 100 backstroke on Friday, recording a cumulative 35 points on the day.
The Knights opened the evening with 2
nd Team All-America performances in the 200 butterfly from graduate students
Julien Camy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and
Eric Chimes (Broadview Heights, OhioĀ Brecksville-Broadview) with Camy winning the consolation final in a school-record time of 1:47.12 to take ninth while Chimes was 11
th in a time of 1:47.93.
Junior
David Bajwa (Bethesda, Md./The Heights School) then turned around to earn 1
st Team All-America honors with a sixth-place swim in the 100 backstroke, clocking in with a time of 47.88. It marked the second individual All-America swim of the meet for Bajwa who earlier had taken seventh in the 50 freestyle. In the morning prelims, Bajwa shattered the Calvin record in the race, clocking in with a time of 47.44 to break the previous record of 47.62 set by
Noah Holstege last season. Sophomore
Charles Platt claimed 2
nd Team All-America honors by taking second in the consolation finals in a time of 48.15 to finish 10
th overall.
Calvin's 800 freestyle relay team of Camy, Chimes, junior Joshua Seidelman (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) and Platt just missed a Second Team All-America berth, placing 17
th in a time of 6:47.63.
In the morning prelims, sophomore
Caleb Gemmen (Mentor, Oh./Home School) took 23
rd with a career-best time of 55.04. Sophomore
Timothy Hays (Arlington Heights, Il./Prospect HS) took 25th in the 200 butterfly (1:50.62).Ā
COACHES COMMENT: "Another good night for us," said Calvin head coach
Dan Gelderloos. "We had great efforts from our four men in their (evening finals) races. We've put our team in a high spot in the team standings. We need one more good day to stay up there and that's the goal."
NEXT UP: The final day of competition is set for Saturday with morning prelims set for 10 a.m. and championship finals to follow at 6 p.m. Scheduled to compete for Calvin are senior

th in the 100 freestyle, Bajwa (seeded fourth) and Platt (seeded 13th) in the 200 backstroke, Ā Gemmen in the 200 breaststroke (seeded 21
