GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 13
th-ranked Calvin ACHA D1 hockey team picked up a 9-2 win over the visiting Western Michigan University Stallions in a GLCHL Quarterfinal Tournament game Thursday night at Eagles Ice Arena.
The Knights advance to the tournament semifinals to play 11
th-ranked Purdue Northwest at 8:30 p.m. in Farmington Hills, Michigan, with Davenport and top-seeded Adrian playing in the first semifinal game at 5:30 p.m. Friday's game between Calvin and Purdue Northwest will feature a rematch of game from last Saturday won by Purdue Northwest 6-2.
In its win over Western Michigan Thursday night, Calvin (21-8-1) Calvin led 1-0 after one period of play and then picked up four goals in the second period to build a 5-2 lead. Calvin added four unanswered tallies in the third period to seal the win.

Lou Vesperini scored in the opening 26 seconds of the second period to give Calvin a 2-0 advantage with sophomore

Jacob Siebenga adding goals to give the Knights a 4-0 advantage.
Western Michigan scored twice to cut the deficit in half but junior
Joshua Ernst scored with just 2:02 left in the period to give the Knights a 5-2 lead.
VanDusen picked up an early goal in the third and junior
Charles Riordan added back-to-back tallies to put Calvin up 8-2. Pool then scored late to finish off the win.
Calvin finished with a 63-22 shots on goal advantage. Freshman
Adam Yost got the start in goal and finished with 20 saves.
COACHES COMMENT: "It was nice to get some of our guys back from injuries to add to our depth," said Calvin head coach
Mike Petrusma. "Our puck movement was really good. We are looking forward to playing Purdue Northwest tomorrow in the semifinal of our league (tournament) playoffs."
