Megan Gilbert Leads MIAA Women's Lacrosse Honors As Offensive MVP

Four Calvin University senior women's lacrosse players were honored by the MIAA on Wednesday in the conference's postseason awards announcement.

Megan Gilbert (Lansing, Mich./Holt) was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Year, and was also joined on the All-MIAA First Team by Jessica Camp (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township). Mekaelah McClymont (Camp Hill, Pa./Covenant Christian Academy) and Liske Lieuwen (Atlanta, Ga./Home School) were named All-MIAA Second Team.

"I'm incredibly proud of the work these four have put in, and they'll be the first ones to tell you that they couldn't have done it without the support of their team," Calvin head women's lacrosse coach Blake Boehm said.

Gilbert is the second Calvin women's lacrosse player to be named MIAA Offensive Player of the Year, joining Kelly Pepper from the 2018 season. This season, Gilbert led the MIAA in points (83) and shots (134), while tying for the conference lead with 70 goals. She also led the conference with 161 draw controls, besting the second-highest total in the MIAA by 50.

The honor comes near the end of a record-breaking career in which Gilbert set the all-time Calvin record with 251 career goals and 483 career draw controls. She also has 288 career points, just five shy of the program's all-time record in that category. This marks the second straight season Gilbert was named All-MIAA First Team, and the third time she was named all-conference.

"It's such an honor for Megan to be recognized as Offensive Player of the Year," Boehm said. "She's such a selfless player with outstanding talent. She shows up ready to work every day and wants nothing but the best for her team. This achievement is a reflection of her love for the game and the passion with which she plays every minute."

Camp was named All-MIAA First Team for the first time in her career (she was All-MIAA Second Team in 2022) after another stellar season for the Knights in goal. Camp finished second in the MIAA in saves (158) and save percentage (.474) while also putting her name in the Calvin record books among the best goalies in program history.

Camp is the Knights' all-time leader in career save percentage (.476), and her 158 saves this season broke her own school single-season record (set last season) for saves. She is also 11 saves away from the Calvin career record.

McClymont received her first All-MIAA honor after a strong senior season. McClymont led Calvin with 17 assists and three game-winning goals, and also finished second on the team in goals (41), points (58), shots (91), draw controls (49) and shots on goal (72).

Those statistics put McClymont among the league leaders in many categories, as she finished in the top 10 in assists, goals, shots and shots on goal.

Lieuwen was also honored by the MIAA for the first time in her career. A three-year starter, Lieuwen missed time early in the season due to injury, but returned at the start of conference play and proved to be a vital part of the Calvin defense in front of Camp.

Lieuwen played in nine games and finished with 15 caused turnovers (13 in MIAA play) and 17 ground balls. She also recorded one assist.

"Jess, Mekaelah, and Liske have each had outstanding seasons and have stepped up big for us when we've needed them most," Boehm said.

The four seniors helped Calvin to a 9-6 overall record, including a 5-2 league mark. They will lead the Knights into the semi-final round of the MIAA Tournament later today (Wednesday, May 3) when they travel to Hope College for a game scheduled to start at 4:00 PM.
