Results

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Calvin men's golf team finished its season on Saturday with the final round of the MIAA AQ Tournament at Wuskowhan Players Club, with freshman Jack Marzolino winning medalist honors as the top individual at the tournament.

Marzolino (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) carded a final round 69 to finish the three AQ Tournament rounds with a total score of 216 strokes. The 69 score followed rounds of 73 and 74, and was the second-best score of the day on Saturday.

Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) scored 75 to shave one stroke off his Friday round of 76 at the event.

Tim Braun (Northville, Mich./Northville) shot 82 on Saturday, while Gannon McDonough (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater) and Luke Weesies (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) shot 81 and 83, respectively.

Calvin finished fourth among the teams at the event with a three-day total of 923, and shot a final-round total of 307.

Hope College won the tournament with a team score of 895, followed by Trine (904) and Adrian (911).

COACH'S COMMENT: "It was great for us to participate in the AQ this spring," Calvin head men's golf coach Brian Bolt said. "It's excellent competition and good practice under stress, which our team needs. We did not perform very well as a team, but there were good signs for the future.

"Two first-year players stood out. Matt Turcotte turned in three good rounds, each better than the last, and he finished in the top 10 of performers. Jack Marzolino was a star. Across the 54 holes of the tournament he was the medalist with the best score overall. He cared 73, 74, and today finished with a stellar 69. Both of these players will be building blocks for our teams in future years."
