Calvin Men's Golf in Fourth Place After First MIAA AQ Event

Results

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Calvin University men's golf team finished the first of three days of the MIAA AQ Tournament in fourth place at Glendarin Hills Golf Club on Saturday.

The Knights shot a team score of 307 strokes on the day to finish fourth among the four teams at the event, but are within striking distance of moving up when the tournament continues next weekend.

Gannon McDonough (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater) shot the low round of the day for Calvin with a 73, good for third place among the 21 golfers at the event.

Jack Marzolino (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) followed just behind with a 75 to tie for fifth place on the day, while Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) carded a 79 to tie for 16th place.

Tim Braun (Northville, Mich./Northville) and Jackson Glanzer (Stevensville, Mich./Berrien Springs) closed the Calvin line-up with rounds of 80 and 81, respectively.

Hope College recorded the top score on the day with a total of 290 strokes, followed by Adrian (303) and Trine (305).

COACH'S COMMENT: "We had some good moments today," Calvin men's golf coach Brian Bolt said. "Gannon McDonough led us with a solid 73. We were within a few strokes of the lead at the turn, but things did not bounce our way on the back nine and we were not able to recover. We are looking ahead to improving our standing during the final 36 holes next weekend."

NEXT UP: Calvin men's golf will return to action Tuesday, April 18, when it plays in the AC Eddy Invitational at Zollner Golf Course hosted by Trine University.
