WAVERLY, IA. – A group of Calvin men's track and field athletes competed at the Wartburg NCAA III Last-Chance Qualifier this weekend.
The weekend began on Friday night with Calvin's distance medley relay team of sophomore
Nicholas Henz (Oswego, Il./Oswego East HS), junior
Corbin DeBoer (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS), senior
Lucas VanderPloeg (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) and sophomore
Thaine Nederveld (Columbus, Oh./Columbus Alternative School) competing.
The DMR team took sixth with a time of 10:06.96. Henz opened the relay with a 1200 meter split of 3:04.55 with DeBoer following with a 400 meter split of 49.97. VanderPloeg ran the 800 meter leg in 1:56.72 with Nederveld closing with a 1600 meter closing leg of 4:15.73.
On Saturday, senior Will Hofmann (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) took fourth with a career-best time of 14:43.94.
Henz took 25
th in the mile run with a time of 4:34.44. Nederveld finished the meet with a sixth place time of 8:39.68 in the 3000 meter run.
The NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships field is set to be announced later this weekend.
