NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - The Calvin University men's golf team returned to action for the start of the spring season for day one of the Purgatory Intercollegiate tournament hosted by Taylor University at Purgatory Golf Club on Friday.
The Knights finished the day with a team score of 324 total strokes, good for 11th place out of 14 teams at the event.
Tim Braun (Northville, Mich./Northville) led the Knights on day one with a round of 78, good for a tie for 23rd among the 71 players in the tournament.
Behind Braun, was
Jack Marzolino (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) with a round of 81,
Jackson Glanzer (Stevensville, Mich./Berrien Springs) with an 82,
Gannon McDonough (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater) with an 83, and
Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) with a round of 84.
Taylor University currently leads the tournament with a team score of 294, followed by St. Thomas (Fla) with 297 and Parkland with 304.
COACH'S COMMENT: "Day one was a struggle," Calvin men's golf coach
Brian Bolt said. "We posted below average scores through the whole line-up. We knew it would be tough since the weather has kept us from practicing outside until just yesterday. Still, we need to sharpen our games quickly to be ready for the league AQ in a few weeks."
