BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Calvin senior
Brandan Knepper came up with one of his finest races in a Calvin uniform, placing 12
th in the men's 5000 meter run Friday night at the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Knepper (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area HS) came into Friday's race seeded 16
th and moved up four spots by posting a time of 14:29.22 while competing in a loaded field of 20 runners.
Knepper began near the back of the pack and picked off several runners over the final portion of his race.
"Brandan ran a very intelligent race tonight," said Calvin head track and field coach Adam Haldorson. "He gradually moved up through the field the entire race and just ran out of real estate at the end before he could pass a few more. It was a fantastic first showing at a track and field national championship for Brandan and it really sets him up well for the outdoor season."
The race concludes an outstanding 2023 indoor campaign for Knepper who shattered the school record in the 5000 meters earlier in the year with a time of 14:13.74.
