HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Calvin men's indoor track and field team had a big collection of performances at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic on Saturday.
Senior
Isaac Jonker (Denver, Co./Denver Christian HS) had a big day in the weight throw, unleashing a career-best throw of 58-8 ¼ that places him 42
nd on the NCAA III Indoor Performance list and third on the MIAA Indoor Performance List. Senior Misael Martinez Vazquez (Chicago, Il./Chicago Hope Academy) was seventh (46-9). Martinez Vazquez also took seventh in the shot put with a career-best throw of 43-10 ½.
Sophomore
Ethan VanWoerkom (Denver, Co./Denver Christian HS) was sixth in the triple jump (38-4 ¼). Senior
John White (Midland, Mich./Midland HS) took fifth in the long jump (21-4 ¼).
Calvin placed three in the top eight in the mile run with junior
Hayden Verhill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian HS) third (4:38.46), freshman
Kevin Gee (Chicago, Il./Walter Mather HS) fourth (4:38.61) and junior
Zander Hartsuff (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea HS) eighth (4:47.19).
In the 3000 meters, Calvin went 4-7-9 with junior
Benjamin Kinnucan (Lowell, Mich./Lowell HS) placing fourth (9:10.48), junior
Carter Vande Vegte (Sioux Center, Ia./Sioux Center HS) seventh (9:20.30) and senior
Thomas Noble (Lakewood, Co./Denver Christian HS) ninth (9:34.76).

Landon Culver (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS), freshman
Levi Harris (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield HS), senior
Carter Hammond (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) and junior
Caleb Stout (Grand Rapids, Mich./The Potter's House) took seventh in a time of 3:50.76.
COACHES COMMENT: "It was a good workday for us at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic. Many of our athletes were competing on heavy legs as we are rounding up our current training cycles," said Calvin head track and field coach Adam Haldorson. "
Isaac Jonker moved up the national and MIAA board in the Weight Throw and now stands as #42 in the nation and #3 in the MIAA. Next week we will be competing at the MIAA Indoor Championship site and look forward to previewing the facility as we get prepared for indoor championship season!"
NEXT UP: Calvin will compete at an invitational hosted by Trine University next Saturday.
