WEST OLIVE, Mich. - The Calvin men's golf team finished third at the MIAA Jamboree #1 event held at Wuskowhan Players Club on Monday.
The Knights battled the course and the elements as they finished with a team score of 309 in the wind and rain.
The 309 score trailed second-place Trine by two, while Hope took first place with a score of 302.
Jack Marzolino (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) got off to a slow start, but shot 33 on the back nine to card 74 on the day, good for a tie for second place on the individual leaderboard.
Behind him,
Jacob Siebenga (Surrey, B.C./Surrey Christian) shot 77 while
Jackson Glanzer (Stevensville, Mich./Berrien Springs) shot 78.
Gannon McDonough (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater) and
Tim Braun (Northville, Mich./Northville) shot 80 and 81, respectively.
Playing as an individual,
Matt Turcotte (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) shot 76 to tie for eighth place.
COACH'S COMMENT: "For this first MIAA tournament we turned in some solid performances, but we also missed an opportunity," Calvin men's golf coach
Brian Bolt said. "Freshman
Jack Marzolino carded our low round of the day, but we fell short of a complete performance. Looking ahead, we will need to dial in some areas of inconsistency and adjust better to playing in inclement conditions."
NEXT UP: Calvin men's golf will return to action on Saturday, October 1, when it plays in the second MIAA Jamboree event at Pine Rivers Country Club.
