Calvin Lands 16 Teams on MIAA Team GPA Award List

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has recognized teams on the 2021-22 MIAA Team GPA Award list. This award recognizes conference athletic teams for performance in the classroom of a 3.3 cumulative GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale). During the recently completed 2021-22 school year, 16 of Calvin's 21 varsity athletics teams that compete in the MIAA achieved this distinction. 

11 of Calvin's women's teams received the MIAA Team GPA Award while five of the men's teams also achieved the feat. Calvin teams receiving the honor are as follows: women's cross country, women's golf, women's tennis, women's indoor track and field, women's outdoor track and field, women's volleyball, women's basketball, men's basketball, women's swimming and diving, women's lacrosse, men's tennis, softball, men's cross country, men's indoor track and field, women's soccer and men's outdoor track and field.

The women's cross country team finished fourth on the MIAA list with a 3.75 team grade point average. The Calvin women's cross country team continues a remarkable streak with the honor as it is one of only two teams – along with the Hope women's cross country team -  to receive the award all 24 years it has been presented. The men's cross country team posted a 3.35 grade point average to land on the honor list for the 14th straight year and for the 17th time in program history.

The Calvin track and field program had all four of his teams on the honor list. The women's indoor track and field team compiled a 3.57 grade point average to earn the award for the seventh consecutive year. The Calvin women's outdoor track and field team came in with a grade point average of 3.56 to earn the award for the 15th straight year. The men's indoor track and field team also claimed the award for the seventh straight year, compiling a team grade point average of 3.33 while the men's outdoor track and field team recorded a grade point average of 3.31 to achieve the honor for the sixth straight year. 

The Calvin men's tennis team landed on the honor list with a team cumulative grade point average of 3.37. The team is receiving the honor for the 12th time in program history. The Calvin women's tennis team posted a 3.57 grade point average. It marks the eighth straight year the Calvin women's tennis team has received the award.

The Calvin women's swimming and diving team appears on the MIAA Team GPA Award list for the 15th time and for the ninth consecutive year as the squad posted a 3.48 grade point average. 

The Calvin softball team earned the award for the fourth straight year and for the ninth time in program history, compiling a team grade point average of 3.37. 

The Calvin women's golf team recorded a team grade point average of 3.60. It marks the fifth straight year that the Calvin women's golf team has received the award and the ninth time in program history.

The Calvin women's soccer team is receiving the award for the 10th straight year and for the 15th time in program history. The team produced a team grade point average of 3.32. 

The women's volleyball team received the honor for the 20th time and the 16th consecutive year with a grade point average of 3.55. 

The Calvin women's lacrosse team is on the list for the third straight year and for fifth time in program history. The Knights posted a grade point average of 3.42. 

The Calvin men's basketball team recorded a team grade point average of 3.48. It marks the third straight year and the sixth time overall that the Calvin men's basketball program has earned the award. 

The Calvin women's basketball team compiled a team grade point average of 3.54. It marks the 16th time that the program has earned the award.

The MIAA has presented the Team GPA Award each year since the 1998-99 academic year.
